[Rdo-list] OhioLinuxFest CFP now open
by Rich Bowen
Ohio LinuxFest call for papers is now open - http://ohiolinux.org/CFP -
and they're specifically looking for OpenStack talks this year. If any
of you are in the Columbus area, or within a few hours' drive, it's well
worth going to. It's a really fun event with a passionate crowd.
I don't think I'm going to be able to make it up there this year, but
have driven up for about half of the events since they got started.
Always a good time.

[Rdo-list] Ceilometer DB?
by Erich Weiler
Hi Y'all,
I was going to try and set up Ceilometer using MySQL as a DB backend on
my test cluster, but I had read somewhere that MySQL wasn't supported as
a database backend with Ceilometer under RDO yet. I just wanted to
confirm, is that true? Am I required to use MongoDB?
Just checking before I go through a bunch of debugging just to learn
that "it doesn't work anyway..." ;)
cheers,
erich

[Rdo-list] What's new in the OpenStack Heat Icehouse release - Hangout next week
by Rich Bowen
Next week, Steve Baker of the Heat team will be doing a hangout titled
"What's new in the OpenStack Heat Icehouse release". This will be at 5pm
Eastern time on April 29th, which is Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 9AM
Steve's time and http://tm3.org/rdoheat in your timezone, and you can
register to attend at http://goo.gl/Tzj85j
In this hangout Steve Baker will walk through the key new features in
the Icehouse release of OpenStack Heat.
Please also note that the URL I posted for this earlier this week was
incorrect - I had to recreate the Hangout because I did it wrong the
first time. The correct URL is http://goo.gl/Tzj85j
During the talk, we'll also be hanging out on #rdo-hangout for questions
and commentary.
See you then!

[Rdo-list] [OFI] Recap from last week
by Jason Rist
A bunch of us got together in Brno, CZ and cranked through some of the
core needs for the OpenStack Foreman Installer, AKA Staypuft!
Some big progress:
1.) Using 'wicked' gem, we got much of the wizard tied together,
creating underlying relevant OpenStack hostgroups, made each step tie
with one another, and created a relevant deployment model upon
completion of the 3rd step. This also includes listing deployments
(currently only 1), and the ability to delete a deployment and
associated hostgroups.
2.) mtaylor, mhulan and pchalupa made huge progress on the DynFlow
orchestration of the OpenStack deployment, to the point of successfully
launching a (mis-configured) OpenStack deployment that was able to be
opened in a browser.
3.) Big demo that we did on Friday showing our progress.
If interested, I can post the DynFlow video (ogv) somewhere.
Thanks from the Staypuft team,
Jason

[Rdo-list] Puppet 3.5.1 breaks RDO Foreman Installs
by Brad P. Crochet
Pupppet Labs released into their repo (http://yum.puppetlabs.com) a
3.5.1 version sometime last week.
This version renders the Foreman install inoperable. Thanks to a catch
by Crag, it was discovered.
I have tested both 3.2.4 and 3.4.3 (using yum-plugin-versionlock), and
it works with those versions.
We currently have in openstack-foreman-installer:
Requires: puppet >= 2.7
It seems we have a number of options to fix this:
1) Make the current Astapor codebase compatible with 3.5.1, hopefully
without breaking current compatibility.
2) Require a version <= 3.4.3
3) Remove the puppetlabs repos from rdo-release, and rely on the
puppet from EPEL/Fedora.
I would say these options are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
This affects both Havana and Icehouse.
