As you are probably aware, RDO has two blog sites -
http://rdoproject.org/blog and http://blogs.rdoproject.org
I'm in the process of consolidating these two sites into the single
Wordpress installation - http://blogs.rdoproject.org/
This should preserve existing accounts and existing URLs, but of course
the workflow will be rather different when writing a blog post going
forward, complete with modern blogging tools, drafting, and various
features that Wordpress makes available with plugins.
So, the next time you want to put up a new blog post, you might want to
check with me first to ensure that you have all the right credentials
and know where to go.

This has taken a while to get everything in place, but, thanks to Duck,
we now have everything transitioned over.
All existing blog post links should redirect to the new location.
If you have posted a blog post recently (last 30 days), please check to
verify that it is present on the new blog, and that it is correctly
formatted/updated/etc, particularly if your post contained images.

There's still one technical detail to sort - outbound email from the
blog isn't working at the moment. So password resets won't work. I'll
try to get that resolved today.

I certainly see that you don't have a high opinion of this move. I
rather wish we had seen your feedback earlier in this process, as we've
been discussing it for some time.
On the one hand, you can, in fact, still author in simple universal
markdown, so that, at least, has not become more difficult.
The move to Wordpress is all about the things that it makes easier - if
not for the author, in your case, for the consumer of the content. The
ability to automatically promote this content to other social media
outlets. The ability to schedule posts to go out at a particular time.
The large ecosystem of plugins for doing all manner of things around the
blog post. The ability to have a blog post in a draft, and give a team
of people the ability to review it and see what it's actually going to
look like when it's published.
We also simply wanted to merge the two blog presences to remove confusion.
I hope that we haven't lost you as an author with this move.

I also wish to have known as I'd certainly put in my feedback, but I missed
it :-/

After reading this, I'd reccommend Ghost. I believe it offers all the
features mentioned (WP obviously wins on sheer number of plugins) while not
being a bloated PHP system and providing beautiful Markdown
editor/previewer. Late to the party, huh ;)

I have shown the previous system to several people as a state of the art
merge of best of old and new technologies... I really liked it to a point
where it was pleasant to write blog posts.
It boils down to ability to treat the blog text as a text file (like
everything else) and being able to use my favourite set of text editing
tools on it.
I'll see if I can do that with the new setup and there might be some
plugins to help, however I had very bad experience when I tried to make
WordPress behave reasonably like that few years ago.
