Hi Y'all,
I was going to try and set up Ceilometer using MySQL as a DB backend on
my test cluster, but I had read somewhere that MySQL wasn't supported as
a database backend with Ceilometer under RDO yet. I just wanted to
confirm, is that true? Am I required to use MongoDB?
Just checking before I go through a bunch of debugging just to learn
that "it doesn't work anyway..." ;)

My understanding is that work is being done on SQLAlchemy as an
alternative for MongoDB but at this time I don't think it is
'supported'.

My understanding is that work is being done on SQLAlchemy as an
alternative for MongoDB but at this time I don't think it is
'supported'.
More of a curiosity - but do you know why folks aren't working on
integrating MySQL for ceilometer? I understand MongoDB is better at
some tasks than MySQL, but given that many (most?) folks use MySQL for
other OpenStack DBs, MongoDB is just "another thing to manage". You know?
I'm sure there is a good reason for it, I'm just curious...

integration of many DBs.

As SQLAlchemy is an Object Relational Mapper (ORM), it allows the
integration of many DBs.
I believe Eoghan may have some light to shed on this. I know he's told
me in the past why the above is the case, I just can't recall from past
conversations :)

According to http://docs.openstack.org/developer/ceilometer/install/dbreco.html, there are
many database backend choices, mysql included.
There is much discussion on the lists for the ceilometer schema. The MySQL implementation
is tested in the gate but shows some performance issues there even at small scale.
At CERN, we run with MongoDB (and have some scalability issues even then which are being
worked on with the community)
