I know, both Packstack and TripleO have a "homepage" on the
OpenStack
wiki, and that sort of does explain this a bit. But I think this
information should be easily accessible from the RDO project homepage
and be easier to digest than those wiki pages. A table or similar
comparing them would be super helpful. Right now, this isn't just
missing from the homepage, I also can't easily find this information
it in the RDO docs.
On the front page of
https://www.rdoproject.org/ we say:
"To spin up a proof of concept cloud on a single node, try an all in one
installation with the QuickStart.
If you want to create a production-ready cloud, you'll want to use the
TripleO quickstart guide.
And if you want to try out OpenStack without installing anything, you
want TryStack."
With links in the appropriate places. Packstack isn't mentioned by name.
We could certainly do a better job of defining terms.
Meanwhile, PKovar is working with Tuomas Kuosmanen (Tigert) and me to
re-architect the info on the RDO website into more of a "choose your own
adventure" flow, as Tigert says, where folks coming to the site would
follow a path based on their expertise and what they're trying to
accomplish. Beginners go *here*, OpenStack developers go *here*, and so on.
Hopefully in this process we'll do a better job of defining terms that,
at the moment, we seem to kind of assume that everybody already
understands coming in.
