[rdo-list] OpenStack Summit blog posts
by Rich Bowen
I'm hoping to include some OpenStack Summit reports in the RDO
newsletter, which I hope to send out either late this week or early next
week. However, so far I've only found my own blog post, and Julien Danjou's.
If you attended OpenStack Summit, and, in particular, if you attended
any of the RDO events, or talks, at the Summit, please consider writing
a brief blog post about the week - the highlights, important decisions,
fun events, and so on. (And then let me know where it is!)
Thanks!

[rdo-list] Tentative test day schedule
by Rich Bowen
I've posted a tentative test day schedule at
https://www.rdoproject.org/testday/ based on the Ocata development
schedule. I'd appreciate it if a few of you could take a moment to look
it over to see if I've put any of these days on obviously-bad times.
(The one in December is kind of iffy, for sure, but it *might* work.)

[rdo-list] RDO at PTG or OpenStack Summit?
by Rich Bowen
As you no doubt know by now ... well, I'll just quote from another list:
<quote>
As you probably already know, the OpenStack Foundation is restructuring
its events in 2017, splitting the activities that traditionally occurred
at the Design Summit event into work sessions (at the "Project Teams
Gathering" at the start of the cycle) and open community discussions
("Forum" at the OpenStack Summit in the middle of the cycle). You can
learn more about this at http://www.openstack.org/ptg
</quote>
At the last several OpenStack Summits, the RDO community has hosted some
kind of meetup, and of course last week, we had an evening gathering
that we shared with the Ceph community, where we had 215 people in
attendance.
With OpenStack Summit splitting in two, I'm left uncertain what, if
anything, I should be planning for 2017. Will most of the RDO community
attend the PTG, or OpenStack Summit? At which one of these does it make
the most sense to try to do an RDO gathering, if at all?
I can see good arguments for each, including my personal travel plans
;-) but I would like to hear from the rest of you - if I try to do
another event like what we did Tuesday evening in Barcelona, which event
makes more sense?
Thanks.

[rdo-list] Understanding Policy.Json, for domain authorization
by Taisto Qvist
Hi folks,
I've run into a wall with making openstack domain auth working, and I dont
know where to get help, so I am trying here. I've created a question on:
https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/98429/project-specific-admin-unable...
..but no-one seems to be able to help.
Since I wrote that, I've gotten as far as creating a working cloud-wide
admin(the policy trigger for cloud_admin matching against domain_id, didnt
seem to work for the default domain...?), and that user is now working fine
as super-mega-admin.
But my old admin user, that has admin rights only in the default domain,
admin project, cant list users, or projects, in the default domain.
And sureley he should be able to, with the rules:
"admin_and_matching_domain_id": "rule:admin_required and
domain_id:%(domain_id)s",
"identity:list_users": "rule:cloud_admin or
rule:admin_and_matching_domain_id",
I've tried to find comprehensive and up2date references on how to read the
policy.json syntax, but no success so I am unsure on how to interpret the
rule exactly though.
I tried changing to:
"admin_and_matching_domain_id": "rule:admin_required and domain_id:%(
*target*.domain_id)s",
after looking at the rule for:
"identity:get_project": "rule:cloud_admin or
rule:admin_and_matching_target_project_domain_id or project_id:%(
target.project.id)s",
But it didnt help. During the failure, I can see keystone logging:
2016-11-01 22:16:24.521 4824 INFO keystone.common.wsgi
[req-46e3301f-f234-434b-a013-5aa2297b6119 admin_User
admin_Prj - default default] GET
http://172.16.12.100:35357/v3/projects/admin_Prj
(where admin_Prj/User is the UUID's regexped)
What is wrong? Where can I learn how to do this???

[rdo-list] An evening with RDO and Ceph, OpenStack Summit Barcelona
by Rich Bowen
For those of you who missed the evening with Ceph and RDO in Barcelona,
you can see the presentations here: https://youtu.be/Vk818DhwwJw
If you want to skip to a particular presentation, the schedule was as
follows:
0. Welcome and Intro (Patrick/Rich)
1. Jack Zhang, Intel -- 3D Xpoint & 3D NAND with OpenStack and Ceph
2. Haïkel Guémar - RDO release status (aarch64, repos, workflow)
3. George Mihaiescu, Bioinformatics -- Openstack and Ceph used in
large scale cancer research projects
4. Javier Peña - RDO repos overview (CBS vs Trunk, and what goes where)
5. Lars Marowsky-Brée, SUSE -- Convergence in managing Ceph: one
backend with fewer frontends
6. Gulio Fidente: RDO and Ceph
7. Allen Samuels -- Bluestore Teaser
8. Jeff Chu, ARM -- Ceph on ARM
9. Jakub Ruzicka - quick look at new rpmfactory workflow with rdopkg
10. Dan van der Ster, CERN -- How to replace several petabytes of Ceph
hardware without downtime
11. Alfredo Moralej - CI in RDO - what are we testing?
12. Sage Weil - Project Update
There is a *lot* of background noise, but for most of the presentations,
you can hear what is being said. Unfortunately, it looks like the camera
got moved early on, and so the screen isn't visible. Also, many of the
speakers stood off-camera.
Slides/Notes from the various presentations coming shortly, where possible.
