Apologies if I have confused two different things. It is because I have not seen the second yet :)
My understanding now is that there are two UI's :
Horizon for the Overcloud.

What I was referring to was the first one, TripleO UI, which does not exist any more even if I specifically request an install using enable_ui = true. Note that enable_ui = true IS STILL the default in undercloud.conf.
There is no mention of being deprecated in the manual. The undercloud.conf wording is rather confusing as to what is being deprecated: 1) the enable_ui option or 2) the entire UI?
# DEPRECATED: Whether to install the TripleO UI. (boolean value)
# This option is deprecated for removal.
# Its value may be silently ignored in the future.
#enable_ui = true

If what I am saying is correct then, why has it been deprecated? Is there an alternative? It was a very useful tool.

TripleO UI was deprecated due to lack of overall adoption and due to the complexities we've been carrying to support it.  As previously mentioned it was deprecated in stein and while it still is set to true in the undercloud.conf, that actually will just remove it's installation if it exists (to handle removal from Rocky via an upgrade).  It has officially been removed as part of the current (Train) cycle.  The code was released in stein and you could put it back if you want, however it won't be available as of Train so it is not recommended to continue to use it.

I'm unsure why the release notes were not generated for stein (I couldn't find them on releases.o.o).

Thank you all for your time.

Horizon should be deployed by default for an overcloud deployment[0].  For the undercloud, the tripleo ui used to be enabled by default but was switched to clean up the tripleo ui when enabled[1] to handle upgrades.

Sorry, I meant the Overcloud Horizon dashboard, not the tripleo UI.

Sorry I should have been more clear.  The option to install it was switched to the default of false and it was deprecated in Stein. It was removed as of Train. It wasn't really tested in Stein so use with caution.

Thank you Laurant.
The TripleO Ui was installed by default on the Rocky release as described in the install manual.
Unfortunately my Openstack expertise is not at a level to properly troubleshoot such events but a "podman container list" does not list a horizon container.

Thanks for the help

Hey Andreas,

Let me check, but I did a poc with tripleo quickstart and horizon was not installed by default. It had to be added to the list of components installed for the overcloud.

Let me check my notes but it's worth looking at on your side.

Thanks

Hello everyone,
I am beginning to feel that the Horizon dashboard is NOT being installed or not being installed properly on an undercloud using TripleO with the Stein release.
Has anyone had a successful installation of Stein undercloud with the UI working properly?
How do I check that Horizon is being installed and running properly?

Thanks
Andreas

Hello everone,

can somebody please shed some light on a "503 Service Unavailable" error?

After a successful undercloud installation that went without issues as far as I can tell I am trying to reach the TripleO UI with a 503 Service Unavailable error. I have been unable to track down any network/firewall issues.

I am using the stein release on a Centos 7.6.1810.

Any help appreciated.
