Hello RDOers,

In today's RDO meeting [1], we decided to retire the projects Murano, Sahara and Senlin before RDO Caracal GA.
Those projects are inactive or/and failing in CI.
There is more information on the JIRA US [2] and you can follow the removal with the Gerrit topic [3].

Feel free to ping us on #rdo (OFTC) if you have any questions/doubts about this operation.

Best regards,
Joel on behalf of the RDO core team

Hello,

During Caracal release, OpenStack Technical Committee has marked some projects as inactive [1]. That mainly means that there are no active maintainers to maintain them properly and they will not be part of future OpenStack releases, including 2024.1 (Caracal). Also, if those projects are in the same situation in the next release cycle, they may be retired.

In RDO terms, this is affecting Sahara, Senlin and EC2 API which are shipped in the distro. During the last meeting we discussed how to manage those projects in RDO, if we should retire or maintain them in Caracal release. Current proposal is:

- We will maintain packages for inactive projects in RDO while they keep passing periodic CI jobs and are not blocking any or our release criteria. This is intended to give users as much time as possible to look for alternatives to the inactive projects.
- If projects fail CI jobs in RDO CI, we will retire the packages.
- A note will be included in the release notes for RDO Caracal making clear that the inactive projects are not maintained and any bug or issue found will not be fixed.
- If projects are retired in Dalmata release, we will retire them from RDO.

Please, let us know if you have any question or proposal about this. Also, if you are using any of those projects and are willing to collaborate to maintain those projects upstream, you can contact OpenStack TC on openstack-discuss mailing list [3].

Best regards,

Alfredo
