I think I'd prefer to see discussion happen on the forum rather than
have it split across two places - of course if people reply here that's
up to them, but I'd like to see the forum take priority.

+1 to that. Splitting discussions is mostly harming productivity and effectiveness. It's much like cross-posting on mailing lists.
